How To Run a Local - Labour Relations ~ Calgary
DEADLINE FOR REGISTRATION: March 24, 2020

In this workshop, Local Executives and District Representatives will develop a deeper understanding of the dispute resolution and Duty to Accommodate processes through two interactive scenarios. In the first scenario, participants will explore the Employer investigation meeting process, including the Local’s role and UNA’s legal obligations in advocating for members. This scenario will then take us through the process of filing and resolving a grievance. Scenario two will explore the Employer’s Duty to Accommodate and will walk participants through the typical issues that arise during the accommodation process.

This workshop is designed for Local Executive members and District Representatives. It is one workshop in the three-part How to Run a Local series: Administration, Finance, and Labour Relations. Please bring your (charged) smartphone and the United Nurses of Alberta mobile app, if possible, or a paper copy of your Collective Agreement.

Through large and small group discussions, activities, and scenarios, participants will identify ways to improve member outreach, to overcome barriers to participation, and to engage members in their local, while gaining a better understanding of the relationship between different local positions. Participants will also identify ways to support members through workplace concerns.

This workshop is designed for Unit/Office Representatives and Local Executive members. Unit/Office Representatives, where possible, should take Know Your Rights before taking this workshop.

PRC Workshop ~ Calgary

You will develop knowledge and skills to help you provide information, support and encouragement to members who report Professional Responsibility Concerns, and to engage confidently with management representatives to achieve an effectively functioning PRC Committee. You will also learn how the PRC information that you enter in the DMS can be used to make effective presentations to CEOs and governing Boards. Case studies illustrating effective PRC communication and "success stories" will be presented. You will receive a print Study Guide at the workshop.

OH&S - Advanced Workshop ~ Calgary

For OH&S Committee members only.
Completion of the OH&S Basic workshop also required.

In this workshop participants will expand on what they learned in the BASIC OH&S workshop. Participants will become familiar with the OH&S Act, Regulations and Code with hands on exercises. You will leave this Workshop with the knowledge to know where to look in the legislation to address your concerns. We will also discuss Imminent Danger and how this legislation affects you, your co-workers and managements responsibilities.

Attending this workshop is a requirement for members serving as a local representative on their Occupational Health and Safety Committee.
