Alberta at the Crossroads: Forward, Not Back - Public Interest Alberta's 12th Annual Advocacy Conference

Each year Public Interest Alberta hosts an advocacy conference addressing pressing public interest issues in Alberta. These conferences are essential opportunities to work with other individuals and organizations in developing public solutions that strengthen our communities and provide us with the tools to mobilize us into action to build a better Alberta for all. Public Interest Alberta’s 12th annual advocacy conference, which takes place April 5 - 6, 2018, will explore such important topics as climate change, reconciliation, democracy, and tax revenue. Join activists and advocates from across the province as we come together with the aim of guiding Alberta on the road to greater fairness, justice, and equality. This workshop covers collective agreement interpretation and the responsibilities of the union in representing UNA's membership. This includes, duty to accommodate, duty of fair, Professional Responsibility (PRC), Occupational Health & Safety, grievances and arbitration as well as other topics. Additionally, it also provides an understanding of the services offered, as well as the structure of United Nurses of Alberta.

During the day, participants will explore UNA's relevance to their own lives and understand the goals, philosophy, and functioning of UNA and unions in general. It provides participants with the tools to protect their rights and opportunities to engage more effectively with UNA.

This workshop is geared for NEW UNA members ~ members who have never been active and now may be considering becoming active in their Local. This workshop is basic information and is not designed for current Local Executives. New Local Executive members will benefit more from the How to Run a Local workshops.

How to Run a Local Workshop (Administration) ~ Calgary

For new Local Executive members only

This session introduces new executive members to their role in leading a healthy and active local. The teamwork aspect of local leadership is emphasized. Many of the day-to-day tasks needed to keep the local functioning are addressed. This session is one of only three addressing technology skills. Through online and computer based activities attendees learn about UNA Net's communication and data management system. All attendees are encouraged to ask computer and UNA Net based questions.
