" Researchers at the University of Alberta are seeking nurses, practicing and non-practicing, to participate in an online survey designed to look at how nurses’ relationships with organizations, and with one another, affects their health. The “Nursing Under the Influence” survey asks about nurse health as it affects practice, use of substances (e.g. alcohol, medications), and attitudes towards nurses with addiction. Questions also address the support provided to nurses by employers, the regulatory college, union and colleagues.
Your participation will contribute to more meaningful results. Nurses are considered more likely to use substances because of their high job strain, shift work, ease of access to medications, and familiarity with the effects of substances. Overall findings of this survey are expected to increase understanding of all nurses of the current situation in Alberta.
The survey is located on a secure site, is approved by the ethics board and managed by the Population Research Lab, at the University of Alberta. Nurses will be creating their own confidential password before entering the site, or may print the survey off for mailing.
