Know Your Rights Workshop ~ Calgary
DEADLINE FOR REGISTRATION: February 8, 2017

The Know Your Rights Workshop offers new members a chance to learn about their union and their rights in the workplace. During the day, participants will explore UNA's relevance to their own lives and understand the goals, philosophy, and functioning of UNA and unions in general. It provides participants with the tools to protect their rights and opportunities to engage more effectively with UNA.

This workshop is geared for NEW UNA members ~ members who have never been active and now may be considering becoming active in their Local. This workshop is basic information and is not designed for current Local Executives. New Local Executive members will benefit more from the How to Run a Local workshops.

The Grievance Workshop requires that qualified participants learn more about contract language and investigations in the different types of grievances and the Arbitration process, This workshop provides an overview of the importance of your roles and responsibilities as a UNA grievance representative. Arbitration is also reviewed in order to understand complexities of the quasi -judicial grievance resolution process. Grievance meeting role play is an integral and fun part of understanding the nuances of each step of the Collective agreement. As result you will have the tools to more effectively represent your local membership during the Grievance and Arbitration process.

The Unit Rep Workshop is designed for those who are Unit/Office Representatives and require additional information on the responsibilities of the position. This workshop covers collective agreement interpretation and the responsibilities of the union in representing UNA's membership. This includes, duty to accommodate, duty of fair, Professional Responsibility (PRC), Occupational Health & Safety, grievances and arbitration as well as other topics. Additionally, it also provides an understanding of the services offered, as well as the structure of United Nurses of Alberta.

PRC Workshop ~ Edmonton

DEADLINE FOR REGISTRATION: January 19, 2017

For PRC Committee members and Local Executives only.

You will develop knowledge and skills to help you provide information, support and encouragement to members who report Professional Responsibility Concerns, and to engage confidently with management representatives to achieve an effectively functioning PRC Committee. You will also learn how the PRC information that you enter in the DMS can be used to make effective presentations to CEOs and governing Boards. Case studies illustrating effective PRC communication and "success stories" will be presented. You will receive a print Study Guide at the workshop.

Treasurers’ Workshop ~ Calgary

This session introduces the new Treasurer to the responsibilities and tools needed to maintain accurate financial records. Understanding and using the messages sent to the Local from Centralized Accounting is emphasized. Treasurers are given steps for authorizing and monitoring the expenditure of Local money and time is taken with the budget process. This session is one of only three addressing technology skills. Hands-on activities are included that help Treasurers develop competent FirstClass and DMS skills. All attendees are encouraged to ask computer and UNA Net based questions.
